Strata Form Series

Strata series is a body of work exploring a design process that is grounded in hand building and incorporates elements of digital fabrication. The forms are first modeled in clay by hand. They are then digitally scanned into a computer program which I use to modify, scale, refine, and slice the CAD model into flat parts that can be cut out in physical materials for fabrication. The final forms are made from stacked laminations of plywood. Each layer is glued together to make a solid form which I carve back into a smooth form by hand using various grinders and abrasive tools.
